May 2, 2016 Dear Australian High Commissioner, I am writing on behalf of the St. John's world expo project. My name is Prav. I am currently a grade 6 student in St. John's school. I was hoping that you would be able to send me some research material. I am doing a project called world expo, in which we are supposed to choose a country to research on. I picked Australia as my country and was wondering if you could send me some research material such as brochures, maps, books, pictures of relics or hotspots, and anything that you find important making Australia a strong and a powerful country. In late December of 2015, I travelled to Melbourne, Australia to visit my mom’s brother and his family. He lives with his wife and 2 children. Although I visit Australia a lot, I still need to learn a lot about this fascinating country. I do know that its the home for Kangaroos, Koalas, Penguins and other creatures such as hammerhead sharks. It is also known for its coral reefs, great ocean roads, apostilles, deserts, deadly snakes, poisonous spiders and what not. I want to rediscover these creatures, nature, and environment to a greater depth. I also know that Australia is a democratic country and has a lot of different races and religious beliefs scattered across the country. I would like to learn about indigenous people of Australia who lived 50,000 years before the British came. I was surprised to find that Australia was actually connected to India and China. I find this interesting because the fruits and vegetables and vegetation from the area connected to India and China are relatively the same as per my parents who are originally from India. I am very interested in this country and I was able to review briefly about its history, symbols and colors of Australian flag. I would greatly appreciate maps and brochures about Australian highways. I also have noticed on the news that the Australian dollar is rising. I would like to learn more about economy as when I visited there, I learned that the wage rate is higher compared to Vancouver. Vancouver is home for Ice-hockey, whereas in Australia, it is all about Cricket. All of Australia shuts down for Cricket matches. I remember, when I once visited Australia in March, there was Cricket fever all around. People got unconditional visitor visas from India, Sri Lanka to join Cricket matches. I would like to learn about this fascinating game.
There is so much to learn about this fascinating land of volcanos and blue mountains. I appreciate the time you have taken to review and acknowledge my letter. I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely,
